Significance

The Amavasya of the Jyeshtha month. 'Falaharini' means the destroyer of the fruits of past actions (Karma). Worshipping Goddess Kali on this night is believed to wipe away the consequences of bad karma. It is also historically significant in Bengal as the night Sri Ramakrishna worshipped Sri Sarada Devi as the embodiment of the Goddess.

Rituals & Customs

Goddess Kali is worshipped with abundant offerings of fresh seasonal summer fruits like mangoes, jackfruits, litchis, and blackberries. These fruits are later distributed as holy prasad.

Fasting Rules

Devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day. The fast is broken only after the midnight puja and Pushpanjali are completed, by consuming the blessed fruits.
