Celebrated on the Purnima of the Jyeshtha month. Married women observe this fast praying for the longevity, health, and prosperity of their husbands. It honours the legend of Sati Savitri, who outwitted Lord Yama to bring her husband Satyavan back to life.
Women worship the Banyan tree (Vat Vriksha), which represents longevity and immortality. They tie a sacred red and yellow thread around the trunk while circumambulating it seven times. Offerings include fruits, sweets, and vermilion.
Married women observe a strict fast from the morning until the puja is completed. The fast is broken only after worshipping the Banyan tree, by consuming prasad and water.
Morning to forenoon during the Purnima tithi.
