Significance

Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Margashirsha or Pausha month, during the solar Dhanur month. It is highly revered in Vaishnavism. It is believed that the northern gates of Vaikuntha are left wide open on this day, granting direct liberation to devotees.

Rituals & Customs

Worshipping Lord Vishnu is central. Temples construct a special temporary gate called Vaikuntha Dwar. Devotees walk through this gate after offering prayers, symbolising their soul's entry into heaven. Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama is mandatory.

Fasting Rules

Standard Ekadashi fasting rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and rice is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) on Dwadashi morning.
