Significance

The Purnima of the Ashwin month. While celebrated as Kojagari Lakshmi Puja in Bengal, it holds broader cosmic significance across India — it is believed that on this night the moon is full with all 16 Kalas and rains down healing Amrit through its moonlight.

Rituals & Customs

A unique ritual is preparing Kheer and leaving it outdoors under the moonlight overnight in a silver or earthen pot. The moon-kissed Kheer is consumed as healing prasad the next morning.

Fasting Rules

Devotees observe a fast from the morning until moonrise in the evening. The fast is broken after offering evening prayers to the moon and the deities.
