Celebrated on the Shukla Dwitiya of the Ashadha month. It commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, from their main temple to the Gundicha Temple, believed to be their aunt's house.
Deities are placed on decorated chariots, and devotees pull the thick ropes of the chariot. Tulsi leaves are mandatory for Lord Jagannath's worship. Offerings include Batasha, Kadma, Malpua, and fresh fruits.
Being a joyous festival, strict fasting is not mandatory. However, devotees participating in the puja or pulling the chariot usually fast until the rope is pulled. A strict Sattvic diet is maintained throughout the day.
Specific lagna according to the Panjika, generally during the afternoon for pulling the chariot.
