Observed on the Krishna Chaturdashi of the Magh month. 'Ratanti' stems from the Bengali word for news spreading. It is believed that the news of Goddess Kali's arrival on earth spreads on this night. It is considered one of the most powerful nights for Kali worship in Bengal.
Goddess Kali is worshipped strictly at midnight following Tantric or Vedic rituals. Offerings include red hibiscus garlands, red sandalwood, lamps, and specialised food offerings.
Devotees observe a strict full-day fast. The fast is broken only after the midnight puja and Pushpanjali are entirely completed.
Nishita Kaal (exact midnight hours) of the Chaturdashi tithi.
