Observed at the end of the Bhadra month, tied to Vishwakarma Puja's date. It is dedicated to Goddess Manasa, the snake deity, to protect the family from snakebites during the monsoon. 'Arandhan' means 'no cooking'.
All cooking is done the night before; lighting the stove on the day itself is strictly forbidden. The traditional offering includes Panta Bhat, fried Hilsa fish, and Kochur Shak. This day-old food is offered to the Goddess, often via a branch of the Sij plant.
Women of the household fast in the morning until the puja is completed and the offering is made. Afterwards, the entire family breaks the fast by eating the cold, day-old food as prasad.
Morning to forenoon of the Sankranti day.
