The Amavasya of the Phalguna month. Like most new moon days, it holds importance for performing Tarpan and Shraddha. It is believed that offering prayers to ancestors on this day brings peace and removes financial obstacles from the family.
Devotees take a holy bath at dawn and perform Tarpan using water and black sesame seeds. Worshipping Lord Shiva is highly auspicious. Donating rice, lentils, and clothes to the poor is recommended.
Those performing Tarpan abstain from food and water until the ancestral offerings and morning puja are fully completed. A Sattvic diet is maintained throughout the day.
Early morning hours of the Amavasya tithi (ideal for bath and Tarpan).
