Observed in the latter half of the Chaitra month, one day before Charak Puja. Bengali mothers observe this strict vow, praying to Lord Shiva for the longevity, good health, and protection of their children from all evils.
Lord Shiva is worshipped. The Shiva Linga is bathed with milk, yogurt, and coconut water, and offered Bel leaves, Akanda, and Datura flowers. In the evening, mothers visit a Shiva temple and light candles or earthen lamps.
Mothers observe a strict waterless (Nirjala) fast throughout the day. The fast is broken in the evening after offering prayers at the Shiva temple, primarily consuming coconut water and fruits.
