Narasimha Chaturdashi

30 April 2026

Significance

The Shukla Chaturdashi of the Vaisakha month. It marks the appearance day of Lord Narasimha, the half-man half-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu, who incarnated to protect his devotee Prahlad and slay the demon king Hiranyakashipu. It represents the victory of devotion over evil.

Rituals & Customs

Lord Narasimha is worshipped with offerings of flowers, sandalwood paste, Tulsi leaves, and cool soothing offerings to calm his fierce form. Chanting the Narasimha Kavacham or reading the story of Prahlad brings spiritual protection.

Fasting Rules

Devotees fast throughout the day. Since Lord Narasimha appeared exactly at dusk (Godhuli Kaal), neither day nor night, the fast is broken only after the dusk puja is completed.

Auspicious Timing

Godhuli Kaal (the twilight period around sunset) during the Chaturdashi tithi.
