Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Vaisakha month. During the churning of the cosmic ocean, a battle broke out between the gods and demons over the nectar of immortality. On this day Lord Vishnu took the enchanting form of Mohini to distract the demons and distribute the nectar to the gods. This fast destroys worldly delusions and deep-rooted sins.
Lord Vishnu and his Mohini avatar are worshipped. The deity is offered incense, lamps, flowers, sandalwood paste, and Tulsi leaves. Reciting the Ramayana or the Vishnu Sahasranama brings mental clarity and spiritual strength.
Standard Ekadashi fasting rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and rice is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) on Dwadashi morning.
