Significance

The Purnima of the Margashirsha month. This day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya, revered as the combined incarnation of the Holy Trinity — Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva.

Rituals & Customs

Devotees worship Lord Dattatreya by offering incense, lamps, flowers, and sandalwood paste. As he is considered the supreme Guru, reciting the Guru Gita or the Avadhuta Gita is highly meritorious. A holy bath in the morning is customary.

Fasting Rules

Devotees observe a fast from the morning until the puja is completed. Many choose to observe a Phalahar fast, consuming only fruits and milk throughout the day.
