Significance

Observed on the last day of the Bengali month of Shravana. Goddess Manasa, the deity of serpents, is worshipped to protect households from snakebites, which are prevalent during the monsoon. It is a deeply rooted regional festival in rural Bengal.

Rituals & Customs

The Goddess is worshipped via an idol, a sacred pot (Ghat), or a Manasa plant. Offerings predominantly include milk, bananas, and raw rice. Reciting the Manasamangal Kavya, a medieval Bengali epic, is a central tradition.

Fasting Rules

The primary person offering the puja observes a fast from the morning, breaking it with prasad only after the rituals are concluded.
