Significance

Observed on the Shukla Trayodashi of the Chaitra month. It marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. He preached Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya, and Aparigraha (non-attachment). It is the most significant festival for the Jain community.

Rituals & Customs

The idol of Lord Mahavira is ceremonially bathed (Abhisheka) with water, milk, and fragrant oils. Temples are decorated and grand processions are carried out. Devotees engage in prayer, reading sacred texts, and acts of charity.

Fasting Rules

Many devout Jains observe a strict fast. Those who do not fast maintain a rigorous Sattvic diet, strictly avoiding root vegetables, onions, and garlic in accordance with Jain dietary laws.
