The Purnima of the Magh month, considered a highly sacred month for spiritual austerity. This day marks the conclusion of Kalpavas, the month-long period of ascetic living and bathing at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. It is believed that deities descend to earth to bathe in the holy rivers on this day.
Taking a holy dip in the Ganges or any sacred river at dawn is highly auspicious. Following the bath, prayers are offered to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Donating black sesame seeds, blankets, food, and clothes to the needy is a primary ritual.
There is no strict universal fast. However, devotees abstain from eating until their holy bath and charitable donations are completed. A pure Sattvic diet is maintained throughout the day.
Early morning to forenoon during the Purnima tithi (for the holy bath and charity).
