Kamada Ekadashi

Significance

Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Chaitra month. It is the first Ekadashi of the Hindu New Year. 'Kamada' translates to 'the fulfiller of all desires'. It is believed that observing this fast frees a person from curses, past sins, and guilt.

Rituals & Customs

Lord Vishnu is worshipped. The deity is offered incense, lamps, flowers, fruits, and Tulsi leaves. Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama and singing Krishna bhajans is considered highly auspicious.

Fasting Rules

Standard Ekadashi fasting rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and rice is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) on Dwadashi morning.
