Performed on the Amavasya night of the Kartik month, coinciding with Diwali. Goddess Kali is worshipped as the supreme manifestation of Shakti, destroying ignorance, ego, and dark forces.
The Goddess is adorned with garlands of red hibiscus flowers. Homes are illuminated with earthen lamps. While Tantric rituals are performed in temples, household pujas are devotional in nature.
Devotees observe a strict full-day fast. The fast is broken late at night or in the early hours of the morning only after the puja concludes and Pushpanjali is offered.
Amavasya tithi, specifically during Nishita Kaal (the midnight hours).
