Significance

Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Magh month. According to scriptures, two celestial beings named Malyavan and Pushpavati were cursed by Lord Indra and turned into demonic ghosts. By observing a fast on Jaya Ekadashi they were liberated and regained their celestial forms. It removes the fear of ghosts and curses.

Rituals & Customs

Lord Vishnu is worshipped. The deity is offered incense, lamps, flowers, sandalwood paste, and Tulsi leaves. Reading or listening to the Jaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha is highly auspicious.

Fasting Rules

Standard Ekadashi fasting rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and rice is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) on Dwadashi morning.

Throughout the Ekadashi tithi, with a specific window for Paran on Dwadashi morning.
