Significance

Observed on the Krishna Ekadashi of the Ashwin month. Because it falls within Pitri Paksha, it is deeply significant. Observing this fast is believed to liberate one's departed ancestors from lower realms, granting them safe passage to Vaikuntha.

Rituals & Customs

Lord Vishnu (Shaligram) is worshipped. Performing Pind Daan or Tarpan for ancestors is the central ritual of this day. Devotees chant the Vishnu Sahasranama and consciously transfer the spiritual merit of the fast to their ancestors.

Fasting Rules

Standard Ekadashi fasting rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and rice is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) on Dwadashi morning.
