Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Kartik month. It marks the awakening of Lord Vishnu from his four months of cosmic sleep that began on Devshayani Ekadashi. This day concludes Chaturmas, and auspicious ceremonies like weddings can resume.
Special mantras are chanted to awaken Lord Vishnu. A major ritual is Tulsi Vivah — the ceremonial marriage of the holy Tulsi plant to Shaligram.
Standard Ekadashi rules apply strictly. Abstinence from all grains, cereals, and wheat is required. The fast begins the previous night and is broken (Paran) within a window on Dwadashi morning.
