Significance

Observed on the Shukla Ekadashi of the Ashadha month. It marks the day Lord Vishnu goes to sleep (Yoganidra) on the cosmic serpent Shesha Naga for four months. This period is known as Chaturmas, during which auspicious ceremonies like weddings are put on hold.

Rituals & Customs

Devotees worship Lord Vishnu, offering sandalwood paste, yellow flowers, and Tulsi leaves. Chanting the Vishnu Sahasranama and listening to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha brings spiritual merit.

Fasting Rules

Standard strict Ekadashi rules apply. Grains, cereals, beans, and rice are strictly prohibited. The fast begins on the night of Dashami and is broken (Paran) on the morning of Dwadashi. Many observe a strict waterless fast.
