The Purnima of the Chaitra month. As the first full moon of the Hindu lunar year, it holds spiritual significance. In many parts of North and Eastern India, this day is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman.
Devotees take a holy bath and perform Satyanarayan or Vishnu Puja. Special prayers are offered to Lord Hanuman, including offerings of red vermilion, jasmine oil, red flowers, and laddoos. Reciting the Hanuman Chalisa or Sundarkand is recommended.
Devotees observe a fast until the Satyanarayan Puja or Hanuman Puja is completed. The fast is broken with a Sattvic meal in the evening.
