Significance

The Amavasya of the Chaitra month. According to the traditional Hindu lunar calendar, this is the last Amavasya of the year. It serves as a day of spiritual cleansing before welcoming the New Year and Chaitra Navaratri. It is an excellent day for ancestral worship.

Rituals & Customs

Devotees take a holy bath at dawn and perform Tarpan using water and black sesame seeds for their ancestors. Engaging in charity, such as donating food or clothes to the poor, brings spiritual cleansing.

Fasting Rules

Those performing Tarpan abstain from food and water until the ancestral offerings and morning puja are fully completed. A Sattvic diet is maintained throughout the day.

Auspicious Timing

Early morning hours of the Amavasya tithi (ideal for bath and Tarpan).
