Significance

The Durga Puja celebrated in spring (Chaitra Shukla Paksha). Historically and scripturally, this is the original Durga Puja. According to the Markandeya Purana, King Surath and a merchant named Samadhi initiated this worship in the spring to regain their lost kingdom and peace.

Rituals & Customs

The rituals mirror the autumnal Durga Puja exactly, spanning Shashthi to Dashami. However the Akal Bodhon is omitted since spring is the natural waking period of the deities. The idol's complexion is traditionally depicted as pure molten gold.

Fasting Rules

Fasting rules remain identical to the standard Durga Puja; devotees fast in the morning until they offer floral tributes (Pushpanjali).
