Baikuntha Chaturdashi / Hari-Hara Milan

22 November 2026

Significance

Observed on the Shukla Chaturdashi of the Kartik month. It is a unique and sacred day marking the meeting of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu (Hari-Hara Milan). Mythology states that after Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month slumber, Lord Shiva visits him to hand back the administrative charge of the universe.

Rituals & Customs

The rituals break standard convention in a striking way: Lord Shiva is offered Tulsi leaves (usually reserved for Vishnu), and Lord Vishnu is offered Bel leaves (usually reserved for Shiva). Devotees recite both Shiva and Vishnu stotrams together.

Fasting Rules

Devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day. The fast is broken only after the midnight (Nishita Kaal) worship of both deities is completed.

Auspicious Timing

Nishita Kaal (exact midnight hours) of the Chaturdashi tithi.
