Significance

The Purnima of the Ashwin month. While heavily celebrated as Kojagari Lakshmi Puja in Bengal, this day holds national significance as Valmiki Jayanti — the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, the Adi Kavi and legendary author of the Ramayana.

Rituals & Customs

Maharishi Valmiki and Lord Rama are worshipped. Reciting verses from the Ramayana in temples or at home is the primary ritual. Donating books, pens, and educational materials is considered auspicious.
