The Amavasya of the Ashadha month. Falling at the onset of the monsoon, this day is significant for the agricultural community. Farmers worship their tools and cattle, praying for a bountiful harvest. It is also an auspicious day for performing Tarpan for departed ancestors.
Devotees take a holy bath at dawn and perform Tarpan using water and black sesame seeds. Farmers clean their plows and farming equipment, worshipping them with flowers and vermilion.
Those performing Tarpan abstain from food and water until the ancestral offerings and morning puja are fully completed. A Sattvic diet is maintained throughout the day.
