Observed on the Shukla Ashtami of the Chaitra month, coinciding with Vasanti Durga Puja. Goddess Annapurna is a manifestation of Parvati and is revered as the Goddess of food and nourishment. Her worship ensures that a household never faces starvation.
The primary offering is Anna (cooked rice) along with a wide variety of curries, fries, and traditional dishes. The idol depicts Goddess Annapurna dispensing food into the begging bowl of Lord Shiva.
The primary devotee or the women of the household observe a fast from the morning until Pushpanjali is offered. The fast is broken by consuming the blessed Anna Bhog.
