Significance

Observed on the Shukla Chaturdashi of the Bhadrapada month. Dedicated to the worship of Lord Ananta, the infinite form of Lord Vishnu. Observing this vow is believed to restore lost wealth, honour, and prosperity. Nationally, this day also marks the culmination of the Ganesh festival (Ganesh Visarjan).

Rituals & Customs

The primary ritual involves worshipping Lord Vishnu and tying the Ananta Sutra, a sacred thread with 14 knots representing the 14 forms of the Lord. After the puja, men tie the thread on their right wrist and women on their left.

Fasting Rules

Devotees observe a strict fast from the morning until the puja is completed and the sacred thread is tied. The fast is broken with a Sattvic meal.
