Significance

The Shukla Tritiya of the Vaisakha month. 'Akshaya' means 'never diminishing'. It is one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. It marks the birth of Lord Parashurama and the day Sage Veda Vyasa began dictating the Mahabharata. It is auspicious for initiating new ventures and business ledgers (Hal Khata).

Rituals & Customs

Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped. Buying gold or silver on this day is believed to bring unending prosperity. Business owners worship their new account books. Donating water, food, and clothes brings imperishable merit.

Fasting Rules

There is no universal fasting rule. Business owners generally fast until they have completed the Hal Khata puja in the morning.

Auspicious Timing

The entire Tritiya tithi is considered auspicious, with morning hours preferred for business rituals.
